disturbing and pointless

1. After slicing open a finger and distributing blood liberally around the kitchen last night, my cold addled brain gave me dreams about having my fingers cut off. Not cool.
2. I do not have swine flu. I wish I did. I could stay home and nurse my finger.
3. North Korea described as a “narcissistic personality“. [...]

California, what is wrong with you?

It’s remarkable that a nation that prides itself on freedoms and rights manages to strip them away so quickly if enough people just flat out don’t like them.
Apparently a Californian Supreme Court upheld Proposition 8. Quite bizarrely, the proposition was needed because the Supreme Court (I’m assuming the same Supreme Court, but I don’t know [...]

why do I see a connection here?

Explain this to me: girl gives bizarre account of a shooting to a news crew. Becomes internet sensation. Is revealed as a fraud. Becomes celebrity and bikini model.
How does this work? What am I missing? Will she one day be 45 and hideously embarassed to be known as the “Chk-Chk Boom Girl”? Does this whole [...]

people who didn’t, like, rsvp

I vaguely recall reading, sometime, somewhere, that one of the difficulties with laws prohibiting the publication of material that may be offensive is the reasonable person test. The test, just off the top of my head, asks the courts to decide whether the published material would cause offense or insult to a “reasonable person”. The [...]

bad first date

I went out to buy an iphone today. Yes, I am a victim of advertising. Yes, it’s a shiny new toy and nothing much else. I know, I’m pathetic. Baaa.
It seemed a brilliant idea, though. A phone without the crack across the screen that has mysteriously appeared on my work phone (don’t ask). One that doesn’t take [...]

stop

Stop trying to draw a causal link between what a woman can control, and the decision of a rapist to rape. There isn’t one. There has never been one. There will never be one.
Read the rest of the post at I Am Not Cake immediately. It pretty much sums up what I’ve been thinking and [...]

safe, fun and cheaper than a movie

Proof that Twitter is educational: I just learnt via Bitch Magazine that May is National Masturbation Month in the US. Apparently it was started in 1995, to protest the firing of sex-positive U.S. Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders who suggested masturbation should be a part of sex education. Surely a cause that should be wholeheartedly supported.
Do with this information what you [...]

a coup for the people or just for journalists?

I was quite surprised to discover last week that British Freedom of Information laws only came into force in 2004. According to Wikipedia (which you can take with as many grains of salt as you like) Australia’s FOI legislation came into effect at Federal level in 1989. In WA it took until 1992. It could [...]

if she was asking for it, did she ask you twice?

I haven’t posted on the “sex scandal” in Australian football (the one some might call rape but not the MSM) because I haven’t been able to find the words. Where do you start?
How about here:
They never spoke to me, they spoke just to themselves, amongst themselves, laughing and thinking it was really funny. When you [...]

cull list: stupid emailers

I spent an annoying half hour or so sitting at my desk today trying to pull up the State Government’s budget page which wouldn’t load because it’s exactly like everything else this Government attempts – fucked. So, as I clicked refresh, refresh, refresh, I watched the press releases dribble into the email on everything the [...]
